Eureka College quarterback to play in National Bowl Game
Eureka College senior quarterback Sam Durley (Roanoke/Roanoke-Benson H.S.) has been invited to participate in the third annual National Bowl Game on Dec. 9 in Allentown, Pa., according to an announcement from East Preps LLC on Thursday. The contest, scheduled to begin at noon CT at J. Birney Crum Stadium, will feature 80 of the best college football seniors from all NCAA Divisions.
Durley, who gained national attention after breaking an NCAA single-game record with 736 passing yards at Knox on Sept. 1, brought his 39-game Eureka career to a close last Saturday. He leaves the program as the Red Devils' all-time leader with 579 completions, 8,162 passing yards, 61 passing touchdowns and 7,790 yards of total offense.
Players, which were selected for the game on an invitation-only basis, will arrive in Allentown on Friday, Dec. 7 for two days of registration, practice and meetings before playing the game on Sunday. The game will feature longtime NFL assistant coach Mike Stock as one of the coaches. He will be joined on the sideline by various professional indoor football coaches.
A total of 43 participants from the previous two National Bowl Games were invited to training camp for a professional team, 15 of which were in the NFL. The contest is designed to showcase players to professional teams. Professional scouts are invited to the game, and film from the contest is made available to NFL, CFL and professional indoor scouts.
A portion of proceeds from ticket sales at the event will be donated to the Tommy Foundation to help its fight against Autism. A Zumbathon to fight childhood obesity will take place at halftime for people of all ages.
