To say the Metamora varsity baseball team played well would be an understatement in its super-sectional battle against Sycamore Monday at Moline.

The Redbirds were able to accomplish a 10-0 shut out over the Spartans with help from Geremy Guerrero's nine strikeouts and allowing just one hit.

At the plate, Brady Fairfield racked up six RBIs off three hits and Brendan Nachtrieb put the game-winning run across home in the bottom of the sixth.

After the victory, the Redbirds will travel to Joliet for their first state appearance in Metamora history. The first opponent will be Lemont, who also won by the 10-run rule in its super-sectional against De La Salle from Chicago, 11-1.

The two will face each other Friday at 10 a.m. at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.
