Redbird boys basketball starts season strong

The 2012-13 season is starting out how the Redbirds wanted.

The Metamora boys' basketball team won two games Friday at Ottawa.

The team beat Streator, 73-44, and Marengo, 71-35.

Throughout both games, Grant Billimack dominated foes below the hoop to help the Redbird post game rack up points.

David Gualandri helped the offense by knocking down high quality shots.

Defensively, the Redbirds were able to create turnovers which they then converted to points.

Neither team was able to hang with the Redbirds long enough to give them a realistic chance of making a comeback and Metamora cruised to wins.

The team next plays at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Canton in the first Mid-Illini game of the season.

The Redbirds open the home season at 7:30 p.m. against Galesburg Saturday.

Mid-Illini Conference play will continue for Metamora at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at home against the East Peoria Raiders.
