Metamora boys' basketball wins two

The Mid-Illini season is in full swing and Metamora took an easy 68-38 victory over East Peoria at home Friday.

The Raiders kept things close throughout the opening with smart shot selection and defensive lapses from the Redbirds.

In the second quarter, Metamora awoke and surged to a 23-point quarter.

JR Dixon powered the offense by knocking down shots over Raider defenders and setting up teammates with good scoring opportunities.

Dixon led the team with 12 points for the game.

After the first half, Metamora led, 34-12.

The third quarter saw Metamora's offense continue to roll with drives to the hoop and shots from the perimeter as nothing the Raider defense did seemed to work.

In the final frame, East Peoria had it's best offensive outing but it was much too little, much too late as Metamora cruised to the win.

The team kept the conference wins rolling Saturday with a 66-56 home victory over Dunlap.

The Redbirds took an early lead and never looked back.

Spurred on by a 25-point game from Tianen Chen, the Redbird offense looked like the '90s Bulls by scoring at will from anywhere on the court.

Whether it was drives to the hoop or shots from the perimeter, Metamora's offense could do no wrong.

At halftime, Metamora led, 36-21.

In the second half, the Eagle offense awoke and put up 20 points in the third quarter.

The only problem for Dunlap was that Metamora matched them with 20 of their own and cruised to the win.

The team next plays at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Pekin.
