Lady Potters roll Redbirds

METAMORA — The Morton Lady Potters continued their unbeaten campaign on Thursday with a road victory against the Metamora Redbirds.

Morton (6-0, 1-0) slowly pulled away from the Redbirds behind 21 points from Florida Gulf Coast commit Chandler Ryan.

Ryan made nine field goals including one 3-pointer and two free throws, all in the first three quarters.

The Potters led the Redbirds 14-10 after the first quarter of play.

Metamora kept close in the second quarter and entered the second half down five points agianst the defending IHSA Class 3A State Champions.

Morton began to pull away in the third quarter extending their lead to 10 points.

Ryan did not score in the fourth quarter, but it did not matter as the Potters added five more for a 15-point victory in their M-I Conference opener.

Kayla McCormick complemented Ryan with a nine point effort.

Jadison Wharram and Caylie Jones each scored four points for the Potters in the victory.

Tenely Dowell added five points for Morton. Brandi Bisping and Josi Becker each tacked on three points.

Heather DeLuca and Hannah Mueller each scored eight for Metamora in the loss.

The pre-season top-ranked Lady Potters play two home games at the Potterdome this week as they shoot to advance to 8-0 on the season.

Morton took on Bloomington on Tuesday in a game that was not completed as of press time.

On Thursday, Morton battles conference rival Limestone.

Morton travels to Dunlap on Dec. 15 for a 7 p.m. game against the Eagles.

The Pekin Dragons travel to the Potterdome on Dec. 19 for a 5 p.m. matchup with the defending state champions.

Morton participates in the State Farm Holliday Classic at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum from Dec. 28-Dec. 31.

The Potters open the tournament with a 6 p.m. game against Champaign Centennial.

Top seeds for the large school girls include Morton, Rock Island, Springfield and Normal U-High.
