Cross country wins triangular
Both cross country teams picked up a pair of wins Sept. 11 against Pekin and Limestone at Black Partridge Park.
The girls team beat Limestone, 15-50, and Pekin, 24-31, while the boys beat Pekin, 20-37, and Limestone, 18-44.
Leading the girls team was Kaitlyn Benson with a time of 19 minutes, 51 seconds. Katie Kessler finished behind her in second.
Also placing in the top 10 for the girls were Ashlyn Rulis in fifth, Bethany Spradlin in seventh and Ashlyn Tingle in 19th.
On the boys side, the Redbirds had the top two spots, with Joel Anglin winning the meet in 16:32, and Nate Scheirer behind him.
Kyle Thompson took fourth place, Travis Scheirer finished fifth, John Crotteau got seventh and Robert Pitts rounded out the top 10 in 10th.
The boys and girls teams again had strong showings on Saturday at the Dunlap Invitational.
The boys took second behind host Dunlap with 77 points, while the girls grabbed third with 93 points. Only Morton (63) and Dunlap (81) edged the Redbirds.
Four Redbirds finished within 16 seconds of each other. N. Scheirer (16:30), Anglin (16:37.56), T. Scheirer (16:39.88) and Thompson (16:46.58) took the 12th-15th spots in the meet, while Crotteau took 23rd in 17:21.48.
In the open meet, Keaton McClure took first in 17:27.49, while Pat Vieck grabbed second in 17:28.58.
Also in the top five was Jason Argo in 17:33.60.
On the girls side, Benson grabbed third overall, while Kessler grabbed eighth.
Rounding out the girls runners were Rulis in 13th, Spradlin in 29th and Tingle in 53rd.
