Golf teams pick up wins against Panthers

Both Metamora golf teams took care of the Panthers on Sept. 18.

The boys, at home, beat Washington by four strokes, 153-157.

Trey Tussey led the Redbirds with a 37, two strokes away from medalist honors. Ryan Ballard had a 38, while both Ryan Waterworth and Steven Blackburn had 39s.

The JV team fell to the Panthers by three strokes, 73-76.

On the girls side, the team picked up a 194-221 win against the Panthers at Fairlakes.

Abby Young tied for medalists honors with a 47. The other three girls, Joelie Zwick, Laura Wipfler and Brianna Janusz, all shot 49s.

Boys golf

On Friday, the boys picked up a win against Peoria Christian at Donoval, 164-171.

Both Tussey and Dominic Shaheen shared medalist honors with 40s, while Peyton Biernat and Lucas Munter carded 42s.

Metamora took third a day later at the Canton Classic at Wee-Ma-Tuk Golf Course.

The Redbirds scored 323, trailing behind Morton (312) and Washington (315).

Alex Nanninga took second overall at the Classic, carding a 77.

The other golfers all finished within two strokes of each other. Ballard shot an 81, Waterworth an 82 and Blackburn an 83.

Girls golf

The girls took fifth on Saturday at the Galesburg Invitational.

The Redbirds shot a 421, only three shots back from fourth-place Mercer County. Moline won with a 365.

Young led the team with an 89, while Zwick shot a 106.

Rounding out the girls results were Wipfler with a 110 and Kate Anderson with a 116.
