Boys golf opens M-I season with two wins

Three duals opened the Mid-Illini Conference season for the Metamora boys varsity golf team.

After facing Washington, Canton and Morton,  the Redbirds are 2-1 in the M-I.

Metamora 158, Washington 167

 Against Washington Aug. 28 at the front nine of Metamora Fields, the Redbirds were able to outscore the Panthers, 158-167.

Leading for the Redbirds in the first Mid-Illini Conference dual of the season were Dominic Shaheen and Matthew Ambrosch both marked 39s and Lucas Munter and Peyton Biernat finished with 40s on the cards.

Gage Drier finished with a 43 and Ryan Coughlin finished the nine holes with a 47 to aid in the victory.

Metamora 156, Canton 184

On Sept. 2, the Redbirds pulled through with another M-I win. Metamora put down Canton, 156-184, in the front nine at Metamora Fields.

Shaheen and Biernat finished the round with match low scores of 38.

Munter was in with a 39 and Drier marked a 41 on the card.

Ambrosch closed out with a 45 and Coughlin finished with a 47.

Morton 151, Metamora 161

Metamora fell to its first M-I opponent Morton Thursday at the front nine of Pine Lakes, 161-151.

Shaheen was co-medalist after scoring a 37 to tie with Morton’s leader Pete Kuhl.

Munter was close behind with a 38. Drier and Coughlin both marked 43s on the card with Biernat closing in with a 44. 

Ambrosch rounded out for the Redbirds with a 47 after nine.
