Redbird soccer adds 2 wins

Two wins were posted to the Metamora varsity boys soccer team record in one of the last week’s of regular season action.

The Redbirds defeated Mid-Illini Conference foe Pekin, 5-0 and had a victory over Roanoke Benson co-op.

Metamora 5, Pekin 0

Visiting Dragon territory Sept. 7, Metamora earned a 5-0 shutout.

Clay Jones connected first for a goal just 15 minutes in and then again in the final minute of the first half to make it 2-0 heading into the half.

In the second, Josh Opper put one past the Pekin defenders in the 54th minute with an assist by Jones and about a minute later, Ian Conger swept in to make it 4-0 in favor of the ‘Birds.

With about three minutes to spare in the match, Nick Hoenert found the back of the Dragon’s net with Lucas Calvaresi in on the assist.

Metamora outshot Pekin, 16-3 and Josh Clasen finished with three saves.

Metamora 2, RB 0

In the second shutout of the week, Metamora was on the road again to face RB for a 2-0 victory.

Sixteen minutes into the match Parker Phillips drove in for the first goal and only of the first half.

The Redbirds were held in scoring until eight minutes into the second when Opper netted a gaol with Ryan Willard for the assist.

Nearly doubling shots on goal against RB, 14-8, Clasen was able to get his hands on six saves for the match.
