Lauren Parks returns a volley against East Peoria on Thursday. Parks picked up a pair of wins last week at home.

After a slow start against Normal Community, the Metamora girls tennis team picked up their first win against East Peoria.

The girls faced Normal on Aug. 20, only taking one match in the 8-1 loss.

The lone victory came at No. 4 singles, where Lauren Parks won, 6-4, 6-2.

Coach Brad Boeker attributed the playing in the first match to nerves, and said the team was calmer and more confident against East Peoria, winning, 6-3.

The girls won all singles matches except at the No. 1 spot. Sharyn Axelson won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2, while Melissa Ringenberg won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.

Parks picked up her second win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, while both Bri Kiesewetter (6-3, 6-4) and Kaitlyn Grieves (7-5, 6-0) got their first win.

In doubles, the pair of Parks/Kiesewetter won, 6-4, 7-6.

Boeker said that the team has been working on double skills to try and improve.

The junior varsity team also picked up a win, 7-2.
